You asked, we answered! Many of you asked us to create a smaller, purse-friendly version of our much beloved Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo... And we have finally done it! It's now comes in a small travel friendly size, just perfect to fit in your bag for a mid-day yoga session or workout.
We have been going No-Poo over here with much success. I personally have been No-Poo for pretty much most of the year, except for the few travel occasions where I forgot to bring my No-Poo kit along and had to settle for icky hotel shampoos (!). I never thought I would experience this much success going no-poo, but it has since changed my entire hair relationship. My once very limp and slinky hair ("flat head" was a term I was very familiar with), is now completely different to what it was. It is no longer heavy filled with gunk, with a plasticky feel. Without the chemicals now, it is bouncy, alive and just being how it should have been all along.
So what exactly is No-Poo, you may ask. There are a lot of variations of it, but essentially, No-Poo is the process of going all natural, foregoing chemically laden shampoos. Some people take it literally and avoid any forms of shampoo, only washing their hairs with water. Others, forgo store-bought shampoos and use natural forms of shampoo. Whichever the interpretation, the main point of the process is to eliminate the harsh chemicals altogether.
My No-Poo Journey
Before going No-Poo, shampooing and conditioning my hair everyday, my hair was always flat and limp. There was no way I could give it any form of life (Well, I probably could have hair-sprayed the crap out of it but I'm a no-fuss kinda girl. And also, the chemicals found in hair spray just scare the living daylights of out me.) More often than not, I had to pin up the top of my hair just to give it even the slightly bit of volume. But trust me, it definitely wasn't fooling anyone.
I discarded my shampoos and conditioners, bought a large box of aluminium-free baking soda and there is no looking back from that point on.
I give a good washing with water and a little bit of Baking Soda every other day or so, and that is it. It is left feeling soft and smooth, just as if I had conditioned but without the sticky leftover reside feeling a conditioner leaves. It remains looking clean for a good number of days, with the help of Dry Shampoo. Being big on exercising and perspiring a lot, having the Dry Shampoo is well, quite the hair saver. I dust it on the scalp and go about my day, no one can even tell!
So you can go No-Poo and still looking like a million dollars! Who knew?
In a small medium sized 100-200ml (3-6oz) bottle, add aluminium-free baking soda (bicarbonate soda) to about 1/5 of the bottle. You do not have to be so precise with, eye-balling it to about 1/4-1/5 is just fine. Fill the rest of the bottle up with water and shake to mix. This mixture should be enough for 2-4 washes.
In show shower: just before you turn the water on, apply the mixture all over your dry scalp. Let the mixture sit for about 1-2 minutes (or the time taken to wash the rest of your body). Massage your scalp thoroughly as you rinse the mixture off. Blow or towel dry, and you are done!
You can repeat this process every other day or when deemed necessary.
To maintain your hair on a daily basis, brush your hair regularly to distribute your natural hair oils evenly. This would help your scalp from looking greasy. Using a dry shampoo in the day would also help stretch out those wash days further.
*If you find that your scalp is a little irritated after your first No-Poo rinse, dilute the mixture further with a bit more water.
To use: Simply apply the dry shampoo directly onto dry scalp. Massage the dry shampoo in using your fingers. It would absorbs excess oils and odours, giving it a voluminous lift. Apply more if needed. Leave for 5 minutes before styling.
You can find our dry shampoo over here. It comes in 2 sides: a large 60ml one for home use before you leave the house and a small 30ml size, just the right size to fit in your purse for anytime you need a quick lift during the day.
