Let’s Talk (Realistic) Beauty Standards!

Okay, it's time to have an real-ass conversation about beauty standards.

We've been conditioned to believe that beauty is defined by flawless skin, a certain body shape, and “perfect” features….But it's time to break free from these constraints and embrace a more realistic and inclusive notion of beauty.

What even is perfection?

Everyone has their own definition. So let's go on a journey to explore the true essence of beauty— one that celebrates individuality, authenticity, and self-acceptance.

Beauty is not a one-size-fits-all concept.

It's about celebrating our unique characteristics that make us who we are. Our skin tones, body shapes, and hair textures are not flaws to be corrected but fascinating aspects of our individuality. By embracing these differences, we create a diverse and vibrant tapestry of beauty that reflects the richness of humanity.

We really need to stop picking at every little flaw we see.

It’s beyond unhealthy and plays a huge role in negative body image. It’s bad enough that the world bombards us with edited and airbrushed images that set unrealistic standards. But it's time to redefine beauty beyond the confines of “perfection”

Those laugh lines etched on our faces tell stories of joy and resilience. Freckles sprinkle our skin like constellations. Scars are the marks that bear witness to our strength and the battles we've fought

Real beauty exists in the raw and imperfect moments that make us beautifully human. And it can be redefined beyond physical appearance.

True beauty radiates from within. It's the kindness we show to others, the strength we display in difficult times, and the authenticity of our character. When we actually focus on nurturing our inner selves—cultivating qualities like compassion, resilience, and empathy—we unlock an inner radiance that transcends just being beautiful on the outside. Let's look beyond the mirror to the qualities that truly define our unique beauty.

Want to know an unknown side effect of unrealistic beauty standards? Prejudice.

Hear us out!

The world is a magnificent mosaic of cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds— beauty thrives in this diversity. But by isolating what is beautiful and what isn’t to you might just be insulting a whole percentage of people that have (and love!) that feature. Take a page from Miss Fenty* herself and actually celebrate every shade, shape, type of human possible. By appreciating and embracing the beauty in others, we create an inclusive environment that uplifts and empowers everyone. It breaks down the walls of judgement and makes us embrace the beauty that comes from the collective differences of the world.

The journey towards realistic beauty standards isn’t one that we can trek alone. It's critical that we uplift and empower those around us too. Complimenting others, embracing body positivity, and rejecting harmful beauty norms can create a ripple effect of self-acceptance and love. Hand-in-hand, you can foster an environment where everyone feels seen, valued, and beautiful in their own skin.

Of course, there will be days that you don’t like what you see in the mirror, trust us, even the most beautiful of models wake up feeling that way— it’s only human. Just know that you can redefine what true beauty is to you. Don’t let it be defined by what you see on Instagram, magazines and movies! As long as you are happy, healthy and confident in your own skin that is all that matters.
