The Do's and Dont's of Lip Care

The Do's and Dont's of Lip Care - Handmade Heroes Malaysia

You’ve got the skincare routine down pat, but what about your lips? A sometimes-overlooked part of the face, we’re putting all our attention on our pouts. Plumped, juicy lips is all we could ask for, so it’s important to keep these tips in mind when it comes to keeping your lips looking and feeling their best.

 Do: Drink Lots of Water

It’s no surprise that staying hydrated is top of the list when it comes to lip care do’s. Our lips basically act like sponges and when exposed to moisture, the absorb water and plump up, but when dehydrated, they shrivel and dry out – something we’d definitely want to avoid at all costs! Water really helps in keeping the lips soft and supple so be sure to never skip out on your 8 cups of water a day.

 Don’t: Over Exfoliate

Exfoliating your lips with a lip scrub can work wonders for the lips – it sloughs away dead skin from the surface to reveal a smoother, softer pout. But be careful to not overindulge in your favourite scrub as it can leave your skin extra dry, raw and even damaged. We recommend exfoliating once or twice a week as more than that can leave you with extra sensitive or swollen lips.

Do: Protect the Lips from the Sun

SPF for your lips is just as important as SPF for the face, if not more! The skin of your lips is much thinner and delicate, meaning its much more susceptible to the elements, such as harsh sun rays and pollution. SPF will keep moisture locked into the lips and protect your pout from free radical damage and sunburn.

 Don’t: Lick Your Lips

A common habit that many of us do subconsciously is licking your lips when they start to feel parched, but did you know this is only going to make your lips feel even more dry? Saliva evaporates very quickly and takes away any remaining moisture with it too, with that, it then leaves your lips drier than before. So be sure to opt for your favourite lip balm (like our Cocoa Friggin’ Fantastic Lip Tint) instead to keep your lips moisturised.

Do: Invest in a Lip Mask

Sometimes, it takes even more than just staying hydrated and exfoliation to keep chapped lips at bay. Our recommendation? Invest in a nourishing mask that’ll instantly deliver an abundance of hydration without wearing layers of lip balm. Our newest Cocolicious Luscious Lip Mask works overnight, is ultra-moisturising and formulated with mango and cocoa butter to reveal incredibly plump, smooth and soft lips.
