We're already cruising through the second week of Ramadhan, and while our spirits may be soaring with the blessings of this holy month, our skin might need a little extra TLC. Fasting during Ramadhan can impact our skin in various ways, but fear not! With a few targeted strategies, we can ensure our skin stays healthy and glowing throughout this spiritual journey.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:

As we enter the second week of fasting and our crazy weather, it's essential to ramp up our hydration game. With long hours of fasting, our bodies can easily become dehydrated, leaving our skin looking dull and lacklustre. Make a conscious effort to drink plenty of water during non-fasting hours to keep your skin hydrated from within. Incorporate hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges into your meals to boost your skin's moisture levels even further. And here’s an extra tip for you; add a pinch of salt and lemons to your water. Sounds crazy but it’ll help your body retain the water thanks to the electrolytes!



Nourish Your Skin with Nutrient-Rich Foods:

Break your fast with foods that not only satisfy your hunger but also nourish your skin. Opt for meals rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to promote skin health from the inside out. Include plenty of leafy greens, colourful fruits, and lean proteins in your iftar and suhoor meals to give your skin the nutrients it craves. Foods like salmon, almonds, and sweet potatoes are particularly beneficial for maintaining a healthy complexion.


Simplify Your Skincare Routine:

It's easy to feel overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of daily fasting and prayers. Simplify your skincare routine to make it more manageable during this busy time. Focus on the basics: cleanse, moisturise, and protect. Use a gentle cleanser to wash away dirt and impurities, followed by a lightweight moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. Don't forget to apply sunscreen before heading out, even if it's just for a quick errand.


Combat Fatigue with Restful Sleep:

As we move further into the month of Ramadhan, fatigue and sleep deprivation can start to take their toll on our skin. Make sleep a priority to ensure your skin gets the rest it needs to rejuvenate and repair itself. Establish a bedtime routine that promotes relaxation and restful sleep. Avoid caffeine and heavy meals before bedtime, and create a comfortable sleep environment free from distractions. Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.



Protect Your Skin from the Sun:

With longer daylight hours and our hot temperatures, sun protection becomes even more important during Ramadhan. Shield your skin from harmful UV rays by wearing sunscreen with a high SPF, even if you're spending most of your time indoors. Reapply sunscreen every few hours, especially if you're participating in outdoor activities or running errands during the day. 



In the midst of fasting and spiritual reflection, don't forget to practise gratitude and self-care. Take moments throughout the day to express gratitude for the blessings of Ramadhan and the opportunity to strengthen your faith. Indulge in acts of self-care that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Whether it's taking a leisurely stroll in nature, indulging in a soothing bath, or practising mindfulness through prayer and meditation, prioritise activities that promote inner peace and well-being.
